What string tension to choose for badminton?

Tension is measured in pounds (lbs). The higher the tension, the more control and precision you gain, but you lose power and forgiveness. General guideline by level:

• Beginner: 18 to 21 lbs — more power and forgiveness, ideal for learning.
• Intermediate: 22 to 24 lbs — good balance of power/control.
• Advanced / Competitor: 25 to 28+ lbs — maximum control, reserved for clean hits.

When in doubt, a slightly lower tension is better: more forgiving and more comfortable for the arm.

How to choose your string (gauge and type)?

The gauge is the diameter of the string, in millimeters. The thinner the string, the more repulsion it offers (power and feel), but it is less durable.

• 0.70 mm: very durable, ideal for long play without breaking — perfect for beginners and hard hitters.
• 0.66 – 0.68 mm: versatile, good compromise between durability and performance.

How often should you restring your racket?

Simple rule: restring your racket as many times a year as you play times per week. Do you play 3 times a week? Aim for 3 restrings per year. A string loses its tension over time even without breaking: a loose string reduces control and increases the risk of arm injury.

How to maintain your string and racket?

• Avoid temperature changes: never leave the racket in a car in direct sunlight or in freezing conditions.
• Use a thermal cover to protect the frame and tension.
